"Europe has what we do not have yet, a sense of the mysterious and inexorable limits of life, a sense, in a word, of tragedy. And we have what they sorely need: a sense of life’s possibilities." -- James Baldwin

About

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you'll stay a while!

Family Life Abroad began a few years back when I relocated from North America to Central Europe. The site deals with all aspects of expatriate life including raising a young family abroad (usually in the form of humorous articles). I've also been fortunate enough to have obtained essays from other experienced expats who've shared their insights and tips on daily life in foreign countries as well as the very real issue of repatriation.

Now a published freelance writer, copyeditor and copywriter, I've been featured in everything from inflight magazines to fashion publications to national sports mags to carb-lite pubs. It's been fun.

Best,
Stephanie Olsen

Travel Tips:
"Zip-Locs are handy for holding everything from wet wipes to passports to snack food to crayons...you get the gist."
~
"Take a (deflated) beachball in the carry-on. The kids can play at the airport during an interminable lay-over; it won't hurt anyone or get lost and you can let the air out when your flight's (finally!) called."
~
"Put a few twist-ties in your wallet. They provide temporary fix-its as well as keeping things in order."
